Billings, MT to Lethbridge, AB
We spent the night of June 30 at a Love’s Travel Center just west of Billings, MT. We intended to “camp” in a full hookup spot but they were all taken so we dry camped in the parking lot. It honestly wasn’t too bad. Trucks are a little noisy but we got used to the sounds and were able to get some sleep. We got up early and headed to the border in Sweetgrass, MT.
Our border crossing was pretty uneventful. Just the usual questions. We were through the booth in just a few minutes. We reserved a camping spot at a KOA in Lethbridge, AB. When we got to the park we were told we had been moved to an upgraded spot because the river in the lower section flooded overnight. Good thing we weren’t there! We were able to do some laundry, dump the tanks and fill up with fresh water.
I learned a valuable (near disastrous) traffic lesson about Canadian traffic lights in Lethbridge. In the US, a solid green turn arrow means oncoming traffic is stopped and your lane is cleared to proceed through your left turn. Not so in Canada! The solid green arrow is the equivalent of a blinking green arrow in the US; proceed with caution when traffic clears. I won’t make that mistake again!
First Tim Horton's Visit
We are very familiar with Tim Horton’s in the Detroit area. We have them on both sides of the border. Greg swears their coffee is the best. I’ll take his word for it. Coffee tastes like caca to me. There’s not enough sugar on the planet to make it taste good. I do like their vanilla chai latte though so, all is well. We got coffee, chai, Tim bits (donut holes) a breakfast sandwich (Greg) and egg bites (dogs). Everyone left there happy.
