Making the RV feel a little more like home
Our “new to us” RV was a pretty plain vanilla canvas to work with. Just like a house, it just needed to have our personal touches added to it.
I started by adding a name to the side of the RV. “Gone With the Wind” seemed appropriate.
A quilt, some pictures and curtains for the living room space
Our RV theme has been the same since we bought our first RV six years ago. I love a western theme. Horses and cowboys just naturally feel like they’re part of that. I made this quilt a while ago and thought it fit the theme of our last RV pretty well so I decided to design our space around it. I used it again in this RV since I liked the theme so much. I also bought a lot of fabric to recover the cushions in our last RV. I had a ton left over so I decided to use it again in this RV. The blackout shade that was behind the sofa was coming apart. I made lined curtains to go over the window instead of the shade. That was a lot easier than repairing the shade!
A little extra overhead storage
The storage space in the RV isn’t terrible. It really only has room for the essentials though. Our dishes and things like that fit in the kitchen well but there’s not a lot of space for snacks, drinks and other things. Since we will be camping in bear country, those things need to be stored inside the RV. I bought a bunch of tote bins for the extra things and put them in the bunk area. I put a tension rod in front of the totes to keep them from falling on our heads as we drive down the road.
Starlink is kind of necessary
Starlink has made it so easy for us to stay connected most of the time. A lot of areas we will be in won’t have cell signal but we should always be connected to a satellite and can use wi-fi on the Starlink. Our Starlink Mini fit perfectly in the skylight above the main part of the RV. I found a suction cup mount on Amazon that worked perfectly for that. The power cable is run through a cable management track that’s attached to the ceiling and routed into the chassis where it plugs into a voltage inverter in the cigarette lighter. I used the 12v plug instead of the 110v outlet so we can use it as we drive down the road as well as when we are boondocking (camping without electric or water hookups).
More blackout curtains for the bedroom
I love the bedroom in the Winnebago View 24v. That’s really what sold me on this model. It has an RV King which is two twin beds with cushions inserted in between making the bed a king.
We found out on our test run though that the window shades needed a little help. A king size bed is awesome except it touches the walls on both sides. Every time we moved, we bumped the wooden pull on the bottom of the window shade. It made a lot of noise when it bumped against the wall in the middle of the night. We also needed to make sure this space is dark because summer nights in Alaska are definitely not dark! To fix that, I made some lined blackout curtains for the bedroom with the same fabric as the living room area. I had a ton of it left from our last RV so the price was perfect! Now we can leave the window shades up and the room will still be dark. No more noisy shade pulls.
Priorities
Anyone who knows me knows my heart bleeds MSU green and white. I have to show my Spartan pride whenever I can, right?
